Notes from the Wilderness
Who We Are
First of all, ‘who we are’ is not about us. It is all about Messiah! We are bondservants of the Master, Messiah Yahushua.
With that said, we are a husband-wife ministry, committed to personally become followers of Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ]; and then to pass along to others the precious golden nuggets and pearls of Truth Messiah has entrusted to us.
I [Brother Bill] am not anyone special, but simply another brother, and a disciple — a learner and follower of Yahushua Messiah, one who is constrained to feed the Flock of Yahuweh (1Peter 5:1-3).
My wife [Deborah] and I are not a part of any sect or denomination, movement or group. We believe it is important that we be law-abiding citizens, and that we pay our taxes, and live in peace, even as Yahushua did. We believe we must pray for our Leaders, for all those in authority, as they are the servants of Yahuweh to wield the sword against those who do evil.
I was born-again in 1974, and baptised in water and in the Holy Spirit. My wife followed shortly thereafter. We met and married in 1977, and home-schooled our two children, who are now out on their own.
During the early years of our journey with the Master, our focus was on learning of God’s goodness, mercy, and grace. Then in 1996, early one morning in a ‘wilderness’ setting, while seeking Messiah in the Scriptures, Messiah began to open my eyes in a new way, in a way I can not explain in technical terms.
I had been praying each time I sat down to read the Scriptures, based on the following passages:
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. (Jeremiah 33:3)
Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. (Psalms 119:18)
Messiah began to open my spiritual eyes, and I began to see the Scriptures in a new way, in a new and unfamiliar paradigm.
The Master was revealing in Scripture what I had not seen before — that all of the written words of Scripture are the words of Messiah Himself. The logical conclusions of this truth expose many of today’s popular, evangelical church doctrines to be misleading, and some actually contrary to Scripture. That is, when we see Messiah’s true identity throughout the Scriptures, we then begin to see clearly how all of the Scriptural warnings are pertinent to Believers today.
During this time in the ‘wilderness’ I had been taking copious notes day after day, and night after night, on everything Yahuwah [the LORD] was revealing to me in the Scriptures. As I continued to study the Scriptures, Father continued to open up the Scripture passages, and I continued to record detailed notes on what I was seeing while in the ‘wilderness.’
Then over time, the Scriptures as a whole became more and more opened and illuminated. What had previously seemed vague and questionable, and as a jumble of random picture-puzzle-pieces, now gradually became clear and certain. Now the puzzle-pieces of Scripture seemed to fit together, and the Scriptures began to reveal the portrait and purposes of the Master.
Having retired from an engineering career, I continue today to seek Messiah in the Scriptures; and together Deborah and I continue to write and serve as Father directs. The ‘Notes from the Wilderness’ writings are written accounts of some of the Scriptures we have seen, and are a ‘work-in-progress’ to be appended as more of the puzzle-pieces fall into place.
Our vision is two-fold.
First, we are called to fully proclaim Yahushua Messiah [Jesus Christ], and Him crucified, to those who have either not heard, or have not understood, the Good News of our Redemption by the Blood of Yahushua Messiah. Our message is, that by Messiah’s Blood alone — and by no good works of our own — we have been redeemed, and set free from the bondage of sin (Titus 3:5; Rev 5:9).
In this we must each be fully resolved in our own mind: that our redemption is by His Blood alone; and that we are saved only by His grace through our faith, and not by any of our own efforts! And furthermore, Father will not permit us to go on unto completion, unto perfection, until the proper foundation-stones of ‘The Faith’ have been laid in our own life (Hebrews 6:1-3).
Second, we are called to proclaim to those who have already been redeemed by the precious Blood of Yahushua, that Father is now calling His redeemed, blood-bought people to prepare themselves for His soon return. He is calling all of His people to return to Him, and to purify [cleanse] ourselves through obedience to His written Word (1Pet 1:22), by learning fear Him, and to love Him, by walking in all His ways, as detailed in Scripture.
Since Messiah is living within each Believer (2Co 13:5; Gal 4:19; Col 1:27), He desires that we would abide in Him, by “walking as Messiah walked” (John 15:10; 1John 2:6).
Messiah is now in the final stages of restoring all things (Acts 3:21). He is loosing the seals on His Word. He is revealing to His people His own words written in the Scriptures, that tell us His true identity (John 1:1, 14).
He is also testing His people, to determine whether they hold to the supreme and abslolute authority of His written Word, or whether they instead choose their own understanding, and hold to their church doctrines that contradict His Word.
And to those who choose to seek Him and to know Him, He is revealing the details of how we are to forsake our own way, and how we are to walk as Messiah walked (1John 2:6). He is giving His Bride all things needed for her preparation, so that just as Esther did, she might make herself ready (Esther 2:9, 15; Matt 25:10; Rev 19:7).
And so our vision can be summed up as follows:
- To reveal who Messiah is — to reveal His identity as The Living Word, and as The Living Way;
- To reveal the meaning and implications of who Messiah is;
- To reveal the Scriptural promises and provisions of the New Covenant, as revealed throughout the Bible;
- To reveal the Scriptural identity and characteristics of Messiah’s Bride;
- To proclaim to Messiah’s people, the Born-Again, Spirit-filled Believers, the details of how, by His Grace, we are to “prepare ye the Way” (Isaiah 40:3, 62:10) within our hearts and lives.
Our purpose is to proclaim:
“the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Messiah [Christ] in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Messiah Yahushua [Christ Jesus]” (Colossians 1:27b-28).
Our purpose includes proclaiming the Good News of Redemption and Salvation, in such a way that the Words of Messiah are received with understanding, and then mixed with faith by those receiving them. This includes identifying the details of how the apostle Paul was a follower [imitator] of Messiah, so that we too might become followers [imitators] of Paul (1Co 4:16, 11:1; Heb 6:12).
Father is now opening up the Scriptures to His disciples. So if we desire to see what Father is now revealing, we must dig into the Scriptures, and read the Scriptures for ourselves, in order to find the nuggets that come into view.
So as part of our purpose, we endeavour to encourage others to study the Scriptures for themselves, as did the Bereans (Acts 17:10-11), and to test every idea and doctrine against the Scriptures.
The Scriptures tell us:
“The goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith” (1Tim 1:5).
As Bride-candidates, we must go through much preparation to make ourselves ready, as we learn how to love the Bridegroom.
The early part of our preparation deals with our attitudes, and the various ways Messiah tests our commitment to abide in Him, and to walk with Him.
The final part of our preparation, however, deals specifically with how we are to love Messiah, and how we are to love the Brethren, in the ways Messiah has told us in Scripture (John 14:15, 21; 1John 5:2, 3; Col 3:14).
And so our goal, and the focus of our websites, can be summed up as follows:
- To shine the light of the Scriptures through posts and articles, making clear and easily understood who Yahushua Messiah is, and what the Spirit of Messiah is telling us through the Scriptures (Habakkuk 2:2; Rom 8:9; 1Pet 1:11);
- To reveal what the Scriptures actually say, about how we are to prepare ourselves as a Bride, to make ourselves ready for the Bridegroom (Matt 25:10; Rev 2:5, 3:3, 19:7).
